The many benefits of a good massage has long been known since the ancient and medieval times; notable civilizations of the past from various parts of the world like Japan, China, Egypt, India, Rome, Greece and Mesopotamia practiced it to promote deep feelings of relaxation and an overall sense of well-being. Any one who wants to learn this ancient art and science of natural healing and become a licensed Massage Therapist can learn all that is needed from a reputable and state recognized Massage Therapy School.

Students are trained correctly to have all the necessary skills to expertly and effectively manipulate soft tissues and pressure points in the body either to correct a physical ailment or to promote a deep sense of relaxation. The school’s program aims to teach individual students all the needed and proper techniques to stimulate nerves for good circulation, help relax tired or stressed muscles and joints, or just let the client enjoy a sense of wellness by being pampered with a soothing and calming massage.

Extensive medical research has shown what a good massage, if expertly and correctly done, brings to a client in terms of effective pain relief, marked reduction of anxiety, depression, and while also helping to normalize blood pressure and heart rate. What a good massage effects does is that it stimulates the release of endorphins and serotonin in the body to help promote deep feelings of relaxation and calm, stimulates the function of the immune system, while also to improve sleep, and prevents scarring of tissue or fibrosis among others.

The educational programs of various Massage Therapy Schools in different states and countries vary in style, philosophy and methodology in imparting all the necessary educational techniques, theories and practices to the student. Before committing to any school’s program, the student is well advised to establish his goals and needs in order to find the most suitable venue. If you are a student with interest in general practice, you will greatly benefit in learning a broader knowledge in massage therapy education focused with the many other facets of massage therapy. If you are training to become a rehabilitative massage therapist, you should incorporate in your studies the medical massage with an approach focused on rehabilitative massage.

Or better yet, student’s can try out the luxurious side of massage therapy education with a spa and resort massage therapy course. Many schools provide extensive training in aromatherapy, skin cleansing massage, and other unconventional therapies to address societies demand for such forms of relaxing and pampering massage therapies. Some massage therapy schools also provide additional programs for the business-inclined students that teaches them to effectively become trained in the business, legal and administrative educational aspect of massage therapy.

What You Should Expect From Professional Massage Therapists

Body massage is no longer a luxury these days. With the stressful life we lead, body massage has become necessary to our health and wellbeing. Various massage therapy techniques such as Swedish massage, deep tissue massage and sports massage relax our muscles and our minds, increasing our resistance to disease and facilitating healing. To ensure that you get truly therapeutic and beneficial body massage, though, you should only go to professional massage therapists in a reputable massage spa. You should also know what to expect from professional massage therapists.

In the United States, massage therapists go through 500 to 1000 hours of training to get a certificate, diploma or degree. Their studies include anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, body massage theory and techniques, first aid and CPR, business management, ethics and legal issues related to the field. They are also required to undergo hands on training and to pursue continuing education. US massage institutes and schools are regulated by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA).

Regulation of massage therapists includes registration, certification and licensing. Registration merely means being listed officially as having met a certain educational requirement. Certification is given to those who meet certain higher standards of educational criteria. Licensing is even more stringent, with each state having its own requirements and examinations.

Thirty eight states in the US require massage therapists to be licensed before they can practice. Thirty nine states provide registration, certification or licensing. For thirty two of those states, this means getting designated as Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB) from tests given by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. The Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards also has the MBLEx certification exam recognized by 13 states.

Towns and counties in the US also have their own local regulations in addition to state requirements. Because unscrupulous parties often use body massage therapy as a front for illegal activities, these policies can include fingerprinting, clearance against venereal diseas
1000
e, prohibition from giving massage services to the opposite sex and prohibition from making house calls. This also protects professional massage therapists from stigma.

When in a massage spa, you should expect professional massage therapists to be in a white uniform similar to medical staff. They should project a professional demeanor at all times and should observe the highest standards in hygiene. They are supposed to wash their hands thoroughly just before each body massage session.

If you have been referred to professional massage therapists by your physician, they should follow the prescribed treatment strictly. If you have approached massage therapists on your own, you should tell them your complaints and everything you know about your condition and they should use their expertise to evaluate you and prescribe the appropriate therapy. They should keep accurate records of all the bodywork done for you.

During each body massage session, professional massage therapists focus uninterrupted attention on one client. No phone calls or distractions are allowed except in emergencies. In fact, the client is often encouraged to block out the outside world through the use of relaxing music and aromatherapy scents.

All conversations between professional massage therapists and the client should remain on the professional level, centering on the therapy. Professional massage therapists may listen to the client’s outpourings of personal problems but should remain objective and avoid emotional involvement. Although they are expected to establish rapport with the client, they should not divulge their own personal problems to the client. Under no circumstances should they discuss other clients except as anonymous case studies when relevant to the therapy.

You can find professional massage therapists in your area if you want body massage therapy in Clearwater, Oldsmar, Safety Harbor or Trinity, FL.

A Massage School Where Students Are The Priority

In a world of continuous movement and progress, we rarely have time to relax. Some of us relax by going for a walk; others prefer watching a good movie, while others prefer having a massage. What could be more relaxing than a good massage done by someone who knows what he or she is doing?

The art of massage is more difficult than one might think and this is why most of the professional masseurs have attended a massage school. Of course, anyone can rub our back, but is not comparable to a professional massage. Massage schools are not like other schools, because they do not focus just on having the students memorize as much as they can; a good massage teaching institution will educate its students to apply what they have learned, while focusing more on practice and less on theory.

It is a fact that the massage industry has grown a lot lately. Many people resort to companies that offer massage services either for therapeutic purposes or for relaxation. If you are interested in attending the classes of a massage teaching institution, first you should decide what type of massage school you are interested in and what you want to accomplish with your training.

You should also know that nowadays there are different approaches and techniques such as Acupressure, Shiatsu, Deep Tissue, Deep muscle and others, that offer different benefits for the patients. Most massage schools offer training in these techniques and once you have decided what type of massage you want to practice, you can begin to look for a suitable massage school.

If you have found the school you want to attend, it is good to find a catalogue and other important details about it, such as the admission requirements and the costs of the programs the school has to offer. If you have the time, you could visit the massage schools you are considering. Another important aspect is to see if the school has official approval. No one wants to go to a school that has no accreditation. The money you can afford to spend on these classes should also form the object of your consideration prior to choosing a certain massage teaching institution.

Massage therapy will offer you not only a personal satisfaction, but also a professional one, because the demand for such services is still
1000
increasing. With the proper training and guidance, you will be able to heal people or, at least, to ease their pain. Massage practices have quite a long history and have proved to be useful since ancient times and this is why more and more people want to know their secrets.

If you are considering going to a massage school, you can specialize in relaxation and stress reduction, in therapeutic massage or in sports massage. The demand for massage therapists is in a continuous growth in resorts, hotels, spas and health clubs. Most therapeutic masseurs are required to have good knowledge of anatomy and physiology in order to be able to find the affected area of the patients and focus on it. The task of the sports masseur is to keep the athletes fit or to help them recover after an injury.

Whatever you opt for, you certainly will not regret having chosen a career as a massage therapist. The benefits for those who attend massage schools are multiple and massage therapists will always be indispensable. A career in this field is a promising one as long as you attend the right school.

The History And Future Of Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy in its most rudimentary form is as old as mankind. It is likely that early cave dwellers possessed an instinctive understanding, common among most of the animal kingdom, that touch relieves pain and promotes healing.

No one culture can claim to be source of the idea that healing is facilitated by touch. Today’s massage therapy evolved from culturally disparate roots including Ancient Greece, Rome, China, Arabia and India. In fact the English word “massage” is derived from the French massage (“friction of kneading”), which in turn is derived from masser (“to massage”), which originates from the Arabic massa (“he felt, touched”) or masaha (“to stroke, anoint, rub”).

Western civilization probably first became aware of the beneficial properties of massage therapy in the 1700’s through the French. At that time, the oldest known book referencing massage was translated into the vernacular and introduced to European culture. This was the “Cong-Fu of the Tao-Tse” written in 3000 BCE China.

Many ancient Chinese writings describe a system of physical therapy mimicking natural animal movements. These ancient therapies can still be found today in Swedish massage therapy.
One ancient Chinese text written in 2760 BCE (“Nei Ching”) survives as a standard in massage therapy training.

Soon after that time, Egyptians developed what is known as reflexology. Paintings depicting a form of massage have been discovered in tombs in the Valley of the Kings dating to about 2330 BCE.

Massage therapy had long been established as part of India’s Ayurvedic medicine, dating back to 3000 BCE. Today’s practitioners of Ayurvedic Abhyanga massage use the same techniques of meditation, aromatherapy and massage kneeding and pressure developed thousands of years ago.

By 1000 BCE and into the second century AD, there is abundant evidence showing that the Greeks and Romans used massage with oils for healing, surgery, to relieve neuralgia and seizures, and to prepare athletes for the Olympic games.

Hippocrates (460-380BCE), the Father of modern medicine, believed that joint function and muscle tone were improved with massage, and changed massage technique significantly by promoting what he termed “anatripsis” or massage upwards toward the heart thereby improving circulation.

By the time of Marcus Aurelius physical manipulations similar to tapotement used in Swedish massage were prescribed for a number of symptoms.

While massage therapy schools were created in China by the 100s AD, Western civilization saw few advances until about the 14th century when Guy de Chauleac published a surgical text describing massage as an essential part of surgery.

Finally, an 18th century Swedish fencing master, Per Henrik Ling gave Europe its first comprehensive massage therapy handbook and the Ling System, which incorporated techniques borrowed from those described in the ancient Chinese writings. The Ling System forms the basis of modern Swedish massage.

By the 20th century developments in pharmacology effectively changed the face of medicine in the West as drugs replaced natural methods of healing. Only within the last 50 years or so has massage therapy gained momentum in the West.

The stresses of modern society along with innovative developments such as the “Seated Massage”, offering unparalleled accessibility, have thrust massage therapy into the spotlight as a respectable option in natural healing and calming techniques.

Hospitals and clinics routinely used this as a recognized and acceptable restorative treatment, yet its preventative benefits have yet to be explored by allopathic medicine. It is this one area that makes the future of massage therapy a promising one.

Welcome to the intriguing world of Massage School Education! In present day, students who have an interest in massage therapy can now invest in a rewarding Massage School Education that can be obtained both during the day and in evening courses provided by a great number of massage therapy schools.

Massage School Education provides opportunities for students to gain certification, diplomas, and degrees in various styles of massage. Some particular massage modalities that can be learned through a comprehensive Massage School Education might include training in neuromuscular therapy, Swedish massage, aromatherapy massage, chair massage, deep tissue massage, reflexology, and many others. Of course, Massage School Education may vary from school to school. In addition, the duration of Massage School Education may also be different from one institution to the next, as some massage schools offer more brief course-intensive training, while others may be as long as a year or more when degree programs are offered.

A sufficient Massage School Education is definitely required for entry-level massage therapist positions in health or medical centers, and, in some cases, certification and/or licensure is also a mandate for certain states. As with most Massage School Education programs, successful students will need to take a National Certification exam to gain appropriate certification to practice massage therapy. Those who desire a more comprehensive Massage School Education may choose to enroll in a massage therapy degree program and become licensed massage therapists (LMTs).

Students who participate in a Massage School Education that is geared toward a degree will encounter more advanced coursework in anatomy, physiology and relevant sciences, in addition to broader scopes of massage techniques. Students who have completed their Massage School Education, and who have attained their Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences, can anticipate excellent earnings and wide-ranging job prospects for years to come.
