Hair Loss In Women – The Role of DHT & Sebum – According to some estimates, Hair loss in women affects one in four women in the U.S.A. alone.

It can be very distressing for a woman, not least because it is so misunderstood and often fails to elicit sympathy from those closest to her. Hair loss in women is usually not so severe as hair loss in men.

Although the numbers of men and women experience hair loss or thinning hair is roughly equal, the degree of thinning is usually less for women.

Male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness are terms used to describe the hair loss and both conditions are known as androgenetic alopecia.

This term means hair loss caused by sensitivity to male hormones which exist in both men and women. DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) is one of the main enemies in the Hair loss in women war.

DHT is a combination of testosterone and androgen receptors mixed with sebum and dirt particles. DHT has a disastrous effect on the hair follicle so it begins to shut down and the hair eventually falls out. (Sebum is a fatty substance secreted from the sebaceous glands most of which open into hair follicles.)

Sebum buildup in the follicles attacks the hair bulb, the rounded area at the end of a hair strand which is rooted in the follicle. Sebum causes the hair bulb to shrink so the hair is not as well rooted.

After the hair falls out the new hair strand growing in that follicle is weaker and thinner and the process is repeated until the hair follicle is so damaged it dies.

Many products on the market therefore try and address this problem by effectively cleaning out the Sebum and dirt from the hair follicles.

Women often notice their own hair loss much sooner than it becomes visible to others. By the general feel, texture, and body of their hair, they realize it is getting thin.

Often, just behind the hairline, they notice a roundish shaped area that gets very thin. This rings alarm bells and those women then search out the best treatment.

The biggest thing that those who train to be massage therapists face when they are close to completing their training is if they will actually be able to find a good massage therapy job after graduating.

The biggest thing that those who train to be massage therapists face when they are close to completing their training is if they will actually be able to find a good massage therapy job after graduating.

There numerous types of massage therapy jobs available, from working in a massage studio, to working in a day spa or salon or working in a medical setting such as in a hospital, doctor’s, physical therapy or chiropractor’s office. It also depends on where you live as you mind find jobs in hotels, at resorts or on cruise liners which you can apply for.

The best way for finding out what jobs are available where you live is by talking to other massage therapists. If you can rather than just talking to those who are connected with the school that you attend speak to others who have no affiliation with your school. If you can speak to several of them that are located in different parts of the town where you live and those who actually do massage therapy in a field that you may not have considered.

Sometimes you may find that there is a lot of demand for massage therapists in one part of the town where you live and almost no jobs whatsoever in another part. You may also find that there is a big difference in relation between people want people to fill massage therapy positions in spas compared to those that are available in medical settings such as those found in physical therapy and chiropractic offices.

Also remember that every one of those massage therapists that you talk to will have started out just like you. In most cases you will find that many of them will be willing to take time out in order to answer some or all of your questions for you. You may even find some who can provide you with specific advice or provide you with a lead for a job that you can apply for.

If you know the location where it is you want to work then start carrying out as much research on the place as you can. Along with speaking to the person who hires staff arrange if at all possible to speak with the massage therapists already working there. If you have not yet started training then find out from them where they did their training. Plus you need to find out exactly what it is they like and dislike about their job. Although the job may be ideally suited to their requirements, you may find that it is not the right one for you.

Most massage therapy schools will have programs in place to help their graduates find a massage therapy job after they graduate. Schools that have built a good reputation in the community often have companies asking them for graduates to hire right out of school. If you haven’t already chosen a school to attend for your training, be sure to take each school’s job assistance programs into consideration before you choose a school.

If you keep the above in mind you discover that getting your perfect massage therapy job will be a lost easier. Also do not rush into the first job you are offered but spend time looking at the many advantages and disadvantages that each position has to offer.

When you visit http://learningmassagetherapy.com where you will find further advice, information and tips regarding the many aspects of massage therapy including using the correct techniques, choosing the right course and purchasing the correct equipment.

Are you interested in offering your clients heated stone massage therapy as part of your massage services? If so then you need to purchase the right sort of equipment and supplies. By purchasing only the best heated stone massage therapy supplies you are ensuring that your clients have a truly pleasant massage experience.

In this article we provide several tips on what you need to be considering when purchasing equipment for your heated stone massage therapy business.

Hot Stones – These you can easily purchase online as well as any good health or department store and there are numerous different ones you can select from. As you will soon discover they come in packets and will contain a variety of different size stones within them. Also the shapes of the stones will differ for them to be placed on particular parts of the body.

It is important when you are going out to buy these stones that you remember that the human body is not perfect and has a multitude of different angles and contours. The stones that you buy should be ones that not only easily but comfortably sit in these locations on the body. Plus you need to ensure that they are ones that you can hold easily as well and which will help when it comes to you gaining access to the muscles that are normally very difficult to get to.

Massage Table – This is as with the stones is a very essential piece of equipment and should be one that is durable and stable. If you want to save some money when first starting up your massage therapy business it may be wise to invest in a foldaway table rather than a permanent one. However, whatever table you select it should be one that can easily cope with the different sizes of people (both in weight and height) that you treat.

Massage Oils & Lotions – These are another essential piece of equipment one needs for carrying out heated stone massage therapy. They will help to increase the benefits the person feels from the massage and makes movement of your hands and stones over the body much easier as well. Also the scent that they give off is a further enhancement for getting your clients to relax and remain calm during the session.

When you are buying the above mentioned supplies it is important that you choose a store which only sells the best quality equipment possible. Therefore before you do make any purchases you should carry out a thorough background check into the company that you are considering.

Another thing one once do when buying any heated stone massage therapy equipment or supplies is to not consider the cost but again the quality of the product. The better the quality the much more enjoyable and relaxing the massage you give your clients will be. Plus you will be assured that the equipment you use is not only effective, but also safe for you and your client as well.

A day at the Day Spa is just a wonderful experience. There are so many treatments to choose from and you know you will be revitalized when you are done. The soothing relaxation and pampering is just what the doctor ordered. The day spa is always something I looked forward to doing, but I am just not finding the time to go as much. With the stress of the new economy upon us, we are all working harder to stay where we are at. Although, I do not make it to the day spa as much, I have found massage chairs to be a very convenient supplement for my massage therapy.

Just as science has advanced, so has the massage recliners produced today. Electronics companies like Panasonic produce massage chairs with tremendous capability. These chairs can massage you from your head to your toes. These massage therapies are very effective. Many of the technologies are designed at replicating hand movements. The Real Pro Ultra uses its Swede-Atsu technology to provide realistic feeling massages.

One of the biggest advantages of having a massage chair of your own is its accessibility. The convenience of having a massage at any time you want or need is fantastic. You do not have to go at a set time. You can take your time or just grab a quickie before work. You can do other things while you are getting a massage as well–for those that really can’t relax!

The Montage Premier which is made by Omega comes with a foot massage. They use reflexology points in your feet to help your entire body to relax. The massage works over your feet with firm air pressure to loosen your muscles and help you relax. The bottom of your feet are stimulated with gentle air pressure which helps to flex your feet both at the heel and the arch. The Montage Premier delivers with its foot reflexology massage.

One of the nice elements of a day spa is the atmosphere. When you get a massage, the lights are low, there is soft music playing in the background. It is a very relaxing environment and then of course, there is the massage. 50 minutes of having the kinks, knots and soreness worked out of your body. Interestingly, massage chairs have made strides in this area as well. Some massage chairs come with an MP3 music player where you can load in your relaxing music. You can put on the headphones, activate the music-massage synchronization button and the chair will massage you to the rhythm of the music. It is so easy to drift off and let the massage chair melt away your worries.

Some of the best massage chair brands are Panasonic, Omega and Sanyo. These manufacturers study massage therapy and now how to deliver a total massage experience. Of course, a masseuse at the day spa and the whole experience is certainly wonderful, but it may not always be an option.

I can use it as much or as little as I like. I can pinpoint exactly where I need more treatment and I can keep it there to work out all the kinks. I put on the headphones, play some soft music and let my massage chair recliner take me to the heights of relaxation.

The History And Future Of Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy in its most rudimentary form is as old as mankind. It is likely that early cave dwellers possessed an instinctive understanding, common among most of the animal kingdom, that touch relieves pain and promotes healing.

No one culture can claim to be source of the idea that healing is facilitated by touch. Today’s massage therapy evolved from culturally disparate roots including Ancient Greece, Rome, China, Arabia and India. In fact the English word “massage” is derived from the French massage (“friction of kneading”), which in turn is derived from masser (“to massage”), which originates from the Arabic massa (“he felt, touched”) or masaha (“to stroke, anoint, rub”).

Western civilization probably first became aware of the beneficial properties of massage therapy in the 1700’s through the French. At that time, the oldest known book referencing massage was translated into the vernacular and introduced to European culture. This was the “Cong-Fu of the Tao-Tse” written in 3000 BCE China.

Many ancient Chinese writings describe a system of physical therapy mimicking natural animal movements. These ancient therapies can still be found today in Swedish massage therapy.
One ancient Chinese text written in 2760 BCE (“Nei Ching”) survives as a standard in massage therapy training.

Soon after that time, Egyptians developed what is known as reflexology. Paintings depicting a form of massage have been discovered in tombs in the Valley of the Kings dating to about 2330 BCE.

Massage therapy had long been established as part of India’s Ayurvedic medicine, dating back to 3000 BCE. Today’s practitioners of Ayurvedic Abhyanga massage use the same techniques of meditation, aromatherapy and massage kneeding and pressure developed thousands of years ago.

By 1000 BCE and into the second century AD, there is abundant evidence showing that the Greeks and Romans used massage with oils for healing, surgery, to relieve neuralgia and seizures, and to prepare athletes for the Olympic games.

Hippocrates (460-380BCE), the Father of modern medicine, believed that joint function and muscle tone were improved with massage, and changed massage technique significantly by promoting what he termed “anatripsis” or massage upwards toward the heart thereby improving circulation.

By the time of Marcus Aurelius physical manipulations similar to tapotement used in Swedish massage were prescribed for a number of symptoms.

While massage therapy schools were created in China by the 100s AD, Western civilization saw few advances until about the 14th century when Guy de Chauleac published a surgical text describing massage as an essential part of surgery.

Finally, an 18th century Swedish fencing master, Per Henrik Ling gave Europe its first comprehensive massage therapy handbook and the Ling System, which incorporated techniques borrowed from those described in the ancient Chinese writings. The Ling System forms the basis of modern Swedish massage.

By the 20th century developments in pharmacology effectively changed the face of medicine in the West as drugs replaced natural methods of healing. Only within the last 50 years or so has massage therapy gained momentum in the West.

The stresses of modern society along with innovative developments such as the “Seated Massage”, offering unparalleled accessibility, have thrust massage therapy into the spotlight as a respectable option in natural healing and calming techniques.

Hospitals and clinics routinely used this as a recognized and acceptable restorative treatment, yet its preventative benefits have yet to be explored by allopathic medicine. It is this one area that makes the future of massage therapy a promising one.

Thousands of years of tried and tested techniques give unparalleled credibility to its therapeutic advantages but it is the innovations yet to come in discovering its preventative benefits that make this an exciting field to be a part of.

If you’ve ever suffered muscular pain and needed to be kneaded, chances are you may be one of the millions of people worldwide to have sought out an expert massage. Expert massageis the practice of soft tissue manipulation with the goal of achieving physical, and in some cases, psychological well being. It is both an art and a science that can be learned through hands-on and theoretical training. Some practitioners train for many years to become experts in specific disciplines of this healing technique, which has been used in numerous countries since ancient times.

How does expert massage work? Massage involves manipulating the body with pressure, tension, motion, or vibration. It can be performed manually, using the hands, fingers, elbows, forearms and feet. It can also involve the use of aids, as in hot stone massage therapy. Expert massage will often involve the client being treated while lying on a massage table or sitting in a specially-designed massage chair. Clients may also be treated while lying on a mat on the floor. The client may be partially unclothed, depending on the type of treatment.

What benefits can expert massage have? Expert massage can be used to target tissue and muscular pain, and can also be used to stimulate the lymphatic and gastrointestinal systems. It can be used to reduce stress, relieve chronic pain, increase flexibility and relax the body, mind and spirit.

Which sort of expert massage is right for me? An expert masseuse will generally carry out a detailed interview prior to therapy to ensure their healing process is most suited for your particular needs. There are more than 100 different recognized massage modalities, and all have different benefits.

What are some of the types of expert massage available? One of the most popular expert massage modalities is Swedish Massage. This is a very gentle and relaxing massage where therapists use massage lotion or oil to perform long, smooth strokes. Aromatherapy Masseuses employ a similar technique but use essential plant oil extracts to address specific needs. Hot Stone Massage is good for people who have muscle tension, and uses heated smooth stones which are placed on certain points of the body to relieve pain and balance energy centres. Deep tissue massage is excellent for chronically tight or painful muscles, and for recovery from injury. Shiatsu is a form of Japanese manipulation that focuses on acupuncture meridians.

I’m pregnant – is there an expert massage modality specific for my needs? Absolutely. Studies have shown that both mothers and unborn children can benefit from expert massage therapy. Also called prenatal massage, pregnancy massage is used to reduce stress, decrease swelling, reduce aches and pains, and relieve anxiety and depression. Pregnancy massage experts are trained in how to position the woman’s body and modify techniques.

How do I get more information about expert massage? In many countries expert massage therapists must be registered with their relevant health association.
If you take on strenuous exercise or other types of similar activities, then you know that your risk being hurt. Muscles get pushed too far and sometimes can fail. This is true for other body parts. The stresses put on them can just be too great. Different injuries require particular physical therapy to recover. If you need to get physical therapy then they will focus on specific treatments to help your bones, muscles and ligament to gain strength and flexibility. These therapies will range from using exercise equipment to receiving massage therapy with a massage chair.

Physical therapy starts with an expert therapist. Much like a trainer, the physical therapist will design a program to increase the flexibility and strength of the injured areas. The therapist must understand your situation. They must know the procedures you went through if you had surgery. They also must know the physiology of your body and its related mechanics. Most of the programs require stretching and massage for flexibility and exercise for strength. They use specialized equipment in order to target specific areas or individual muscles. Massage chairs are particularly effective in loosening tight areas and enhancing blood circulation.

One of the first things you will do in physical therapy is to sit down with your therapist. You will go over in detail your physique and injury areas. The therapist understands surgeries and there affect on your muscle and skeletal systems. They will design a specific program with you. You will be put through a regimen of stretching. They will want you to gain more strength. You may need to do exercises or use specialized exercise equipment. They may rub down or massage certain areas of your injuries. They may have you receive massage therapy in a massage chair recliner. All these therapies are designed to help your recover fully.

Flexibility is critical to restore to the affected area. Our bodies respond to injuries by depending on the remaining systems to make the body function. This means the body isolates those affected areas from activity. The muscles become stiff when used minimally. The therapist will want to elongate the affected muscle groups. They may have to gently twist and turn certain joints and ligament to get the muscle to able to stretch further.

When you are injured, your body knows to shift work to other areas that are not affected. So certain areas are not used for most activities. The muscles that are not used will atrophy. They will start to lose strength. The body adapts to the situation. To reverse this process, your therapist will start you own an exercise program. The exercise program is usually designed to start off slow, but steady. The program may work muscle groups together or may work on individual muscles. The treatments are designed to bring all the elements together for full strength recover.

When you are recovering from surgery most likely you will have new scar tissue. Scar tissue needs to be made more pliable through time. This will enhance the flexibility of the affected area. The mobility of the muscle and also the skin is at stake here. Massage therapy has been shown to increase the flexibility of muscles. Your muscles when injured may also have the muscle fibers break into short units. This reduces their flexibility. The muscles need to be more pliable by elongating the muscle fibers. Massage chairs use kneading and pressing massage techniques to relieve tight muscles and elongate the muscle fibers to restore their flexibility.

Playing sports is a competitive venture. We all up our game when we need to do so. Sometimes we get too competitive and the intensity gets beyond what our body can handle. Sometimes things just happen. If you are injured, then find the right physical therapist for your needs. You want to make sure you have access to excellent equipment like life cycles, treadmills and massage chairs to speed your recovery. Just stick with the program and your physical therapist will get you the results you need.

by Trevor Palmer

People of all walks of life are getting themselves a therapeutic massage more often now than a decade ago. A number of reasons will be briefly

discussed in this article.

Therapeutic massage is valuable in a number of ways and those who have taken themselves to massage centers can attest to this.

One, it assists in recuperation or healing process. It is inevitable for anyone exposed to strenuous exercise or activity to not feel tired and overly stressed. However, fast and efficient recovery may come to the rescue in the form of therapeutic massage. Such a recovery can include improved blood and lymph circulation, muscle relaxation and overall relaxation. Consequently, these lead to extraction of waste products and improved cell nutrition, stabilization of tissues, neutralization of trigger points, and faster healing of injuries which can result to relief from soreness and stiffness, enhanced flexibility, and reduced likelihood of future injury.

Two, it triggers the relaxation response. Over-training which is often associated with irritability, apathy, loss of appetite, insomnia and many more often occurs during heavy exercise or workout. However, therapeutic massage could thwart over-training because it stimulates relaxation. It relaxes tense muscles.

Three, it is a form of stress relief. Massage does help balance the effects of stress in our lives, reduce anxiety level and tension headaches, normalize blocked energy flow, improve the functioning of the immune system and restore a calm mind and feeling of well-being. What could be more rewarding then than a stress-free life or a stress-free day.

While the aforementioned benefits are quite obvious, studies have found out that massage is much more beneficial in treating depression, anxiety and many more emotional issues rather than the physical issues or those associated with physical pain.

We ought to consider that we need to take the initiative of maintaining a sound body and a sound mind. There is so much benefit in indulging yourself into a regular massage. The cost is worth it. Start feeling good in mind and body today by treating yourself to a relaxing massage! After all, our over-all health and well-being lie in our hands.

Do you have an aching back or muscles that have always felt excruciatingly painful for one reason or another? If you have aches and pains that are more than just the result of the usual work stress then you might want to go for a little massage therapy. As with most therapeutic techniques, you probably want to know if you can take advantage of massage therapy insurance.

Massage Therapy Insurance

Most people want massage therapy to be covered by massage therapy insurance and it only seems right. Numerous research studies have shown that massage therapy truly can provide health benefits for various muscular conditions. Various massage techniques can help relieve pain, promote healing of some conditions and improve the general well being of individuals.

Because of the increasing demand for massage therapy, many insurance companies now provide coverage for massage therapy. There are of course, differences in coverage depending on your insurance company. Your insurance company may have coverage rules that include the kind of therapy, the number of sessions and the expertise of your therapist. Depending on the results of the evaluation, your massage therapy insurance may cover part or all of your expenses.

If you want your insurance company to cover your massage sessions, you must provide detailed documentation of your therapy needs and sessions. A doctor’s prescription is necessary as well as a detailed description of what kind of therapy you need, how often you need it and the progress of your sessions.

Insurance Billing

A few years back, there were several massage clinics that offered assistance with massage therapy papers and billings. This added convenience made sense then because patients would definitely want to return to therapists who could handle everything including the hassles of insurance billing. These days though, more and more therapists are drawing away from the task of insurance billing for a number of reasons.

Massage therapists with small clinics and few or no assistants are the ones who are most inconvenienced by massage therapy insurance billing. Not only do they have to juggle busy schedules but they also need to brush up on insurance policies and codes, fill up various forms and process billing requests with companies. Sometimes they would have to wait for a few days or weeks before receiving a response from an insurance company.

It is frustrating to note that there will always be the possibility of the request for payment being denied or the possibility of getting minimal compensation. In this case, they would have to go right back to the client to explain why there are problems with billing. This is a lot of hassle and some therapists simply do not feel that it is worth it.

Processing Insurance Yourself

You would be lucky if you got hold of an affordable therapist who will also offer to do all the dirty work related to massage therapy insurance billing. In some cases though, you would have to do the work yourself. Although massage therapy insurance is something that should definitely be widely provided in the future, you would have to content yourself with the hassles of the present system.
